Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer

by Derwin Emro

Description

Here are four pics of my recently completed 1/48 scale PB4Y-2 Privateer.

I have been a 'serious' modeler for about six years. Over those years I have built perhaps a dozen aircraft. The Privateer is the first conversion and my first attempt at working with vacuform. It was also my first try at using 'Future' on the clear parts. Lastly, this project is my first try at getting pictures of a completed kit published!

The basic kit is the Monogram 1/48 scale B-24D. The conversion was obtained directly from Koster Aero Enterprises, as were the four metal props. I used resin wheels from True Details.

Testor's Model Master enamel paints were used throughout.

Mike Grant made the decals for me. They represent a PB4Y-2 Privateer used by VBP-108 towarda the end of World War 2 in the Pacific. Some aerials were scratch-built. Photos are by Tom Calbury.

While it is not an easy project, I definitely enjoyed doing the Privateer.
