Spitfire Mk.XIVE

by Brett Green

Here is Academy's 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.XIVE. I built this model around five years ago. The model represents a Spitfire attached to 451 Squadron RAAF on occupation duties in Germany during 1945.

Academy's kit, as supplied, has some obvious shape and detail problems.

Many of these issues are addressed with Daco's resin correction set. This set features a complete replacement nose, spinner, propeller blades, radiator housings, wheel hubs, exhausts, rudder, seat, cannon bulges and cannon barrels. White metal replacements for main gear legs and the tailwheel are also included.

The model was painted with the Testor Aztek A470 airbrush. I also used Testor's Metalizer Sealer as a gloss coat before applying the Red Roo decals.

A detailed construction article on this model may be found on HyperScale.
