Description

Here is my latest model – Italeri’s A-6E Intruder in 1/72 scale finished in the markings of VMA-332 Moonlighters, at Camp Wilson during 1993.

Construction was enjoyable and almost without problems. A couple of small challenges were fitting the front windscreen and gluing the wings in closed position.

I added the Eduard PE (Zoom) and resin seats from Pavla.

For painting the canopy I used Eduard masks (the old type – not very good)

Modifications included:

  1. complete new intakes, I made plaster model of intakes interior and use thermo-shrinkage plastic pipe to get proper shape. I wasn’t ease material to work with, but I did it eventually!

  2. ladders – I made it thinner and drilled a lot of small holes to get more realistic effect

  3. added wires in MERs

  4. moved outer pylon to the edge (inaccurately positioned on the kit by about 3 mm)

  5. some additional parts in cabin and wires in wing mechanism

  6. handle for ejector seats

My model was painted with Model Master enamels (Light Ghost Gray and Dark Ghost Gray), and after decals and delicate wash covered mix of humbrol satin and matt, mixed in a ratio of 1:1.
